Painting Freshly Plastered Walls
(The best time to undercoat is before the electrical and carpentry second fix)
Allow 3 weeks for the plaster to dry before applying the first coat.
The most important factor when painting is a good undercoat.
To get the best result, use an acrylic primer such as Colortrend Easi-Prep Primer. This will give maximum adhesion and flexibility with a breathable finish. Acrylic primers also have a high covering ability. Cheaper non Acrylic alternatives include Crown Obliterating Covermatt or Dulux Vinyl Matt.
Water-down the first coat of undercoat paint with 1Ltr of water for every 10Ltrs of paint.
Apply the second coat neat(no water).
You have now given your wall paint the best possible start.
When applying the finishing colour start by cutting in the corners. Cut in around obstructions like wall sockets and where the walls meet the ceiling. Use an angled brush with a polyester/nylon bristle. The Varian Pro Décor 2” short grip is a good choice.
Use a roller to paint the walls. When you start painting a wall, do not stop for a break until you have coated the complete wall. Give each wall two coats. Cut in a 2nd time before giving the full wall a 2nd coat.
Repainting an Internal Wall
It is always best practice to give the wall one coat of undercoat when repainting. A matt white paint with a high covering ability makes a perfect undercoat. It can also be used to paint the ceiling. Suitable paints include Crown Obliterating Covermatt, Colortrend Easi-Prep Primer or Dulux Vinyl Matt.
